It may not be very much to my hon. Friend, but there may be people to whom a nominal expense may be big when they have to pay the bill of the legal gentlemen con- cerned. I say that people going to a court of justice ought to have the prerogative to decide for themselves whether they wish to have a jury and pay for it, or whether they are satisfied to leave the case to the common sense of the Judge, whose decision as a rule is very sound indeed. I disagree with the Bill in one slight respect. Under Clause 7 power is given to include ex-Judges in Commissions of Assize. I take it that means that a legal luminary who, having served his country as a Judge, obtains a pension should be called back to serve on Assizes.
